Apple Crumble

When I saw this at Noobcook, I was so excited because it's so easy and good.  At one stage I used to buy this apple crumble tartlets from a bakery shop near my market.  Three small pieces for $1.00 not enough to satisfy me and this goes on for a few weeks.

Then I start asking around if anybody knows how to make apple crumbles and finally I saw this post by Wiffy at Noobcook.  This is just great and I think even better with a scope of ice cream but I left it out because I have to watch my waistline lah....

Recipe adapted from Noobcook

Ingredients
(Serves 2)

- 50g plain flour
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
- 25g butter, cut to small cubes
- 2 tbsp caster sugar (adjust to your liking)
- 1 cooking apple (such as Golden Delicious & Granny Smith) - I used Granny Smith
- ice cream

Directions
1. Sift the flour and cinnamon powder into a large mixing bowl.
2. Add cubed butter to sifted flour. Using fingertips, gently rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Add sugar and mix well with a spoon.
3. Peel and core the apple. Slice thinly. Arrange apple slices in a greased, shallow baking gratin dish or ramekin(s).
4. Cover apples with the rubbed-in mixture and press lightly with the back of a spoon.
5. Bake at pre-heated oven of 200°C for about 30 minutes, or until the topping is lightly golden brown.

Cooking Notes
1. Make sure the butter cubes, when added to the flour, is still solid and not melty/liquid.
2. If the crumble is cooked but the topping is not browned to your liking, you can help brown the crust by using the grill or broil feature of your oven for a few minutes.
3. If desired, you may also add some uncooked oats to the crumble topping mixture.
